2010 could not have started in a more exciting way for GC. On the sporting side, Gavin Brady, Chris Larson and Sotiris Buseas match raced in Annapolis MD in subzero temperatures (-11 Celsius) on Jan. 29th.

Determination is a key element for success, along with good planning. Gavin Brady (the first ever helmsman for GC) and Sotiris Buseas discussed the future of the team, the AC and the possibility that GC enters the Volvo Ocean Race in the case that the AC will continue to be in legal disputes.

While GC is preparing its bases in Greece and preparing to organize an international regatta, Gavin Brady will be helming for Mascalzone Latino (the new Challenger of Record for the 34th AC) for the LVT events in Auckland , NZ and La Maddalena , IT.

GREEK CHALLENGE in AC33

GC was one of three AC teams invited to the official dinner of the 33rd AC by the organizing authority on Feb.6th. Discussions with Societe Nautique de Geneve and GSTAAD Yacht Club were initiated for further cooperation in the future while in a brief encounter with Golden Gate Yacht Club Commodore Marcus Young, (the new defending club of the Cup) GC relayed its opinion on the future of the challengers, the 34th AC and the
business model of the next edition.

AC33 has been the most defining edition of the CUP since new realities are to be taken in consideration such as the possibility the next edition to be raced on multihulls, the return of the CUP to the USA after 30 years of globetrotting and the possibility that a defender series will be organized in parallel with the challenger series. GC would like to congratulate BMW Oracle Racing for their victory and thank Alinghi Team for its hospitality during the AC33, an event which has defined the future of the competition. On the same token, it is our opinion that the 34th AC should be that of reconciliation and that sportsmanship should prevail bringing back together the sailing community and attract again the global community.

GREECE

GC has secured one of the two bases it has requested while the application for the second location is still under consideration. We are confident that by the end of the Summer Greece will have its first ever AC bases in locations that will advance the sport and the exposure of Greece to the international community. While staging international regattas that will increase the flow of tourists to our magnificent country, the sport will be enhanced by visiting teams that will be practicing and match racing with GC. Greek Athletes will have to develop and/or upgrade their match racing skills in order to prevail over the best sailors of the world and soon enough face them globally following the 34th edition of the America’s Cup and other events. It is our belief that the sport of sailing will be the next platform that Greece will establish itself globally in the next decade, continuing 5000 years of seafaring tradition and all the modern sporting glories that Greek Athletes have brought to their homeland. Ulysses is starting a new trip. Are you up for the challenge?
